Carbon Dioxide

When oil is burned, large amounts of carbon dioxide, the major "greenhouse gas" are released into the air. Greenhouse gases trap heat from the sun in the Earth's lower atmosphere, causing temperatures to rise, a process known as global warming. The average car releases five tons of carbon dioxide a year.
